When inclement weather is forecasted, there are multiple factors to be considered when deciding to delay classes, switch to remote learning or cancel school. District administrators will drive the roads before 4:30 a.m. with buses and student drivers in mind. We also consider regional conditions that could prevent staff who live outside the district from getting to school.

Remote Learning Day
Unless there is an announcement, please assume school is in session, as scheduled. In order to allow families to plan accordingly, our goal is to make a decision the night before or before 5:30 a.m. that morning.

In an effort to provide consistent start and end times for our K-12 learners all Central York students will begin the day at 9 a.m.

Please note: When a remote learning day is used, students will not be required to make up the student day at the end of the school year.

SCHEDULES

Students will follow a modified schedule with teacher-led live lessons and specials. Zoom links will be provided by teachers via Schoology. Classes will begin at 9 a.m. with a morning meeting. All elementary classes will end by 12 p.m.  In addition, students will have access to specials scheduled for that cycle day during the afternoon.

How will students, guardians, and staff be notified when school is delayed or canceled?

Communication will be sent to all students, parents, and staff via phone and email.  A modification to the normal school schedule will also be posted as an alert on the homepage of the District website, social media, and shared with our local TV stations.

To receive these messages, we strongly encourage parents to:

What options will the District consider when weather conditions are severe?

  • Two Hour Delay allows our staff additional time to get to school and prepare the grounds/facilities. Also, conditions and visibility often improve later in the morning.
  • Remote Learning Day/Flexible Instruction Day when weather conditions exist that make travel to and from school unsafe. Students will not physically report to school. Instead, all students will participate in a remote learning day. Details regarding schedules for the day will be communicated by your child’s principal and/or teacher.
  • Canceling School when extreme weather conditions impact the ability to provide instruction in-person or remote.
