Mathematics Analysis
Course Description
This is a course that is useful for both college preparatory and non-college students. The course will build upon the basic foundations of Algebra I, and show students where the math is used outside of the classroom. It will emphasize the following skills: linear equations, finance, probability, and statistics.
Course Big Ideas
- Businesses use basic math everyday to help make data driven decisions.
- Interest formulas are useful for determining your credit, budget, and retirement funds.
- Probability can be used to help predict what will happen in everyday events.
Course Essential Questions
- How can linear equations help make business decisions?
- How does simple and compound interest differ?
- How do interest rates impact my debt, credit and budgeting?
- How can I use basic probability to help make real world decisions?
Course Competencies
- Understand how to set linear equations equal to each other to find profit margins and fair market prices.
- Solve simple and compound interest formulas to find monthly payments.
- Solve simple and compound interest formulas to make decisions on retirement investments.
- Make decisions on expected outcomes based on probability.
