Kindergarten Registration

Children must be 5 years old on or before August 31 of the school year to be enrolled in Kindergarten in the Central York School District. 

No. Central York School District does not do any type of testing for Kindergarten placement.

During kindergarten registration, you and your child will come to the school building for approximately 20-30 minutes. You will have the opportunity to speak with the principal, school nurse, secretary, and other school personnel. Your child will have the opportunity to complete activities and interact with teachers. This occurs in April based on the time you choose when registering.

Kindergarten Orientation is the first day of school and a parent/family member will accompany their child to school.  This is about a two-hour session with your child in either the AM or PM (a time slot will be shared with you from your child’s principal).

Kindergarteners do NOT ride the bus on the first day and should be transported by the parent/family member at their orientation time.

If your child has had a dental or physical exam anytime after 9/1/2024, you can have the forms completed and take them along to your registration appointment this spring. 

If families do not yet have the dental or physical exam and form completed, it can be completed and returned to your child's school nurse at the beginning of the school year, or at any time it is completed.

Proof of Residency is information required that shows proof that the child resides in the Central York School District. It includes a Mortgage/Settlement Agreement or Property Tax Bill for families that own a home, a Lease Agreement with the Landlord's Signature and all names including children listed, or an Affidavit of Multiple Occupancy if living with someone else in the District.

Three of our seven schools serve Kindergarten. Depending on where you live in the District, your child will attend one of these schools:

• Hayshire Elementary School
• Roundtown Elementary School
• Stony Brook Elementary School

Skyward is our Student Information System. As part of the registration process, you will create your Skyward Account. If you already have a student in the District, you will update your existing Skyward Account.

Yes, you will get to meet your child’s teacher on the first day of school at Kindergarten Orientation.

You should provide your child with a backpack and possibly a lunch box if he/she will pack lunch. Central York will provide all other tools and materials your child will need to be successful in school. 

You will receive a letter in the mail in early August with this information as well as a time to report on the first day of school for kindergarten orientation. Teacher information will also be listed in Skyward in early August.
