Hayshire Happenings: States of Matter 💦

Hayshire Happenings: States of Matter 💦

child

We’ve been learning about how water can change from a solid to a liquid to a gas. This is called states of matter.

If ice gets warm, it melts. It will turn into water. If the water gets hot, it will turn into gas. We do not see the water when it turns into gas, but you can see it when it falls from the sky as rain.

Ice is a solid form of water. Water is a liquid. It takes the shape of whatever it is put in.

We did an experiment to see when all the water in the cup would evaporate and turn into gas. We filled up the cup with water. Next, we used a marker to put a line with the date. The line is where the water started. Every day 10, we mark how much the water has evaporated.

We noticed the water has gotten shallower than it was ten days ago. An inch has evaporated.

James thinks the water will evaporate in May. He thinks it will take three months to evaporate. Rori thinks the water will evaporate on January 13th. Everybody wrote their prediction down on a card. Mrs. Slatt is going to put the predictions on the wall for us to see.

Science is really fun.
