Hayshire Happenings: Community Helpers

first graders

First graders are reading Good Job, Ben! Ben and his mom went out in the community. There were lots of workers in the story. Workers helped the community. The crossing guard helped people cross the street. Some workers fixed the street. Bakers baked some bread for Ben and his mom. They even took their dog to the vet. A vet helps dogs and all kinds of pets so they can feel better and get shots. Ben and his mom stopped at the library. The librarian helps people read and get books. There were a lot of helpers in Ben’s community.

Hayshire has community helpers! Firefighters visited Hayshire. We had an assembly. It was only for first, second, and third graders. They taught us about emergencies and what to do when there is a fire. They had a race to see who was faster at putting their fire gear on! After the assembly, the firefighters visited kindergarten classes.

The Hayshire PTO are community helpers. They brought books for our school. They had a book fair! They’re also having a book party, the Read-A-Thon. That happens in the wintertime. They had a fundraiser. They use money from the fundraiser to do nice things for us!

Mrs. Smith is the head cook. She is a Hayshire community helper. She cooks for Hayshire. She makes lunch and breakfast. She makes good food. Ava loves the baked macaroni and cheese. One time they had Domino's pizza. Omri really liked that! Mrs. Smith even makes lunches in the summer!
