Hayshire Happenings: C.A.R.E.S. ♪

At Hayshire, we learn about and show C.A.R.E.S. C stands for cooperation, A stands for assertion, and R is for responsibility. The E is empathy, and the last letter, S, is for self-control.

Every Monday, we read a book. We read The Hula Hooping Queen to talk about cooperation. We read it during Morning Meeting. We did activities throughout the week during Morning Meeting focused on cooperation. We even made a chart. The chart shows what cooperation looks like, sounds like, and feels like.

We wrote ways we show cooperation on sticky notes. Charlie shows cooperation when he helped someone get up when they fell at recess. BrayLon showed cooperation when he helped his mom fill eggs for the egg hunt. Ashley helps people when they need help.

Mrs. Stremmel and Mrs. Knisely picked one of the ideas and wrote it on a note. The note is displayed outside the cafeteria. Everybody can see it when they are outside the cafeteria.

We did the same routine for all of the C.A.R.E.S. letters. Charlie’s favorite story was What If Everybody Did That? That was the story for responsibility. BrayLon liked The Sandwich Shop best. That was the story we read to learn about empathy. Ashley liked My Mouth is a Volcano best! That taught us about self-control.

C.A.R.E.S. is important because it helps everyone stay in the Green Circle. Hayshire is ending the year on a C.A.R.I.N.G. note!
