Hayshire Happenings: After School Reading Camp 📖

Hayshire Happenings: After School Reading Camp 📖

Hayshire is hosting Reading Club for 2nd and 3rd graders this month. Thirty-nine children are participating in the after-school club organized and facilitated by Hayshire staff. Reading Club is an awesome opportunity for children to read and spend time with peers.

Children work in small groups. They do a variety of activities during each camp session. They use letter trays to build high-frequency words.

making words

They make word ladders. Word ladders are made by changing one letter of a word to make a new word. For instance, the first letter in blue can be changed to make the word, clue!

child reading

Children read stories and perform reader's theater. Readers' theater is when readers read the story as a script. Children are assigned different roles and bring the story to life. This helps build reading fluency!
