Hayshire Happenings: 3 Acts Math
We are trying to figure out how many soda cans are in the soda display.
We are trying to figure this out using three acts math.
Act 1: The first act we get a little bit of information. We looked at the picture of the soda display. We noticed they used soda cans were stacked to make Santa's face.
- Ellie noticed they used different kinds of soda.
- Meredith noticed that there was a polar bear representing the little puff ball on the hat (at least that’s what we think).
We figured out our question and then we made estimates.
- The question is, How many soda were used?
We made a low and a high estimate.
- Garrett’s low estimate was 100 cans.
- Henry’s low estimate was 100 cans too.
- Jorge’s high estimate was 206 cans.
- Ellie’s high estimate was 215 soda cans.
Act 2: Act two is finding a strategy to figure how many cans there are in the display.
- Bria is counting the boxes by color first. Then she will find how many cans.
- Meredith wrote down all the colors of the boxes and wrote how many boxes there were for each color. Then she began multiplying the boxes by twelve because there were twelve cans in a box.
- Bria thinks her estimate is not close. It’s too high. Garrett thinks his estimate is perfect. They will find out!
Act 3: Tomorrow the children will finish their strategy work and together they will find out exactly how many cans there are. The reveal is act three!
