Kindergarten Social Studies Overview

Course Description

This social studies course covers the categories of school, community, and self/family. The learners will acquire knowledge about themselves and the school/community environment. Topics include Civics and Government, Geography, Economics, History, Career/Work, and Technology.

Course Big Ideas

  • Understanding the purpose of rules, respect, and responsibility.

  • Understanding personal/family roles, their choices, and their needs. 

  • Celebrating American people, national holidays, and other cultures’ similarities and differences.

  • Identifying a community’s helpers and their role.

  • Understanding economic value within a community (money, goods, services).
