Becoming a Volunteer with Central York School District

The Volunteer Registration Process – Effective August 2, 2021

Thank you for your interest in volunteering in the Central York School District.  In order to be a Central York Volunteer, we ask that you follow the instructions below based on the category that applies to you.

Please note that this year there are some important changes on the Volunteer Agreement page related to COVID - you should make sure you are clearly aware of before signing off on the agreement and submitting your volunteer materials.

  • ALL RETURNING parent volunteers with current clearances already on file with the District (due to being an approved volunteer in the 2019/20 school year) will need to complete a new Volunteer registration packet, which can be found on the District website or picked up at any school office or the Educational Service Center, and return it either via email (to [email protected]) or drop it off at the Educational Service Center (775 Marion Rd.)

  • ALL NEW parent volunteers and returning parent volunteers with expired clearances will complete a Registration Packet, which can be found on the District website or picked up at any school office or the Educational Service Center. Please bring your completed registration packet, current clearances, and your state-issued photo I.D. or driver's license, to the Educational Service Center to complete the Volunteer Registration process.
  • All Athletic Volunteers will require School Board approval before serving.  If you wish to serve as an Athletic Volunteer, please contact our Athletic Director to begin the Athletic Volunteer registration process.  Please note that, as a result of this, returning Athletic Volunteers are not able to re-register through the new online portal.

Upon completion of the registration process, volunteers will be entered into the District’s Volunteer database and will be issued a Volunteer Badge for the new school year.  Volunteer badges will be sent to the school building and can be picked up upon your first volunteer visit to the school.

The following procedures will remain the same for all volunteers:

  • Volunteers must check-in at a school’s main office prior to each volunteer visit.
  • Volunteers must wear their volunteer badge clearly displayed on their person while volunteering.
  • Volunteer status is good only for the current school year.  You must re-register as a volunteer each school year.

Questions can be directed to the District Receptionist, 717-846-6789 ext. 1212.

Important Information on Changes to the District’s Volunteer Program - Effective July 1, 2015

Central York School District is grateful for the hundreds of parents/guardians and community members who volunteer your time and share your talents with our schools each year.

We value your commitment and want to make you aware of some important information on changes to state laws regarding volunteers who work with children in a setting such as our District.

These laws have sparked changes to our policies and procedures to ensure we are in compliance as required by the state.

State Law Changes to Volunteer Definition/Clearance Process

New state laws have expanded the definition of a volunteer and changed the clearance requirements for those wishing to volunteer in education, non-profit organizations, churches and recreation groups, to name a few. The main changes include the following:

  • New clearances are required every 5 (five) years
  • Volunteers should participate in “Mandated Reporter” training

Changes to District Volunteer Program Due to State Law

In order to be in compliance with the state law, Central York School District has made the following changes to its Volunteer Program. These changes will take effect July 1, 2015:

Volunteers must now renew their Volunteer Status Annually and will receive a District-issued badge good for one school year.

The District will not reimburse for clearances.
