Central York School District welcomed Dr. Peter J. Aiken as Superintendent of Schools on November 16, 2021. The School Board selected Dr. Aiken to lead the District following a comprehensive search process.

With “Unity” as his guiding principle, Dr. Aiken is committed to providing an excellent experience for all students, collaborating with stakeholders, creating partnerships, and building relationships.

Dr. Aiken’s career in public education has spanned 22 years, previously serving as Superintendent of Schools for Manheim Central School District. Before holding that position, he was Assistant Superintendent for over two years in the District. He also worked for Conrad Weiser Area School District as Middle School Principal and Virtual School Director and as an Assistant Principal in the Pequea Valley School District.

He began his teaching career in the Blair Middle School in Norfolk, Virginia, before returning to Pennsylvania to teach 12th grade English and serve as the District’s Department Chair in the Mars Area School District. He was also honorably discharged after a three-year tour of duty with the United States Army Reserves.

Dr. Aiken earned his bachelor’s degree in English Education from Geneva College. He earned his master’s degree in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his doctorate from Immaculata University.

The performance of the Superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year was assessed in June, 2023.  The Superintendent met the objective performance standards.
