Communities that Care
Mission Statement: A community-wide approach to promoting the healthy development of young people.
Central York Communities that Care is a local non-profit organization that exists to help support the youth and families of the Central York community through programs and initiatives that support protective factors and risk factors. Every two years, students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 may participate in the Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS). This report highlights the risk factors in the community for students, such as drug use, mental health, and bullying, as well as protective factors, such as attachment to school, pro-social community involvement, etc.
CYCTC uses that data to offer programs and initiatives that support the protective factors and help mitigate the risk factors. That may be through parenting workshops, community events such as the Spirit of Youth Awards, mental health programs or other educational initiatives.
Some of the more notable events and functions in recent years are the Safe Homes Parent Pledge, Spaghetti Sweetheart Dinner, Spirit of Youth Awards, Active Parenting Workshops, and more.
The current President is Barb Snare. (bsnare56@gmail.com). Meetings are held the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM, either at Hayshire or via Zoom.
