Girls basketball in York County began in the 1974-1975 school year. Since very early in it's history, Central York has fielded competitive girls' basketball teams, being one of the first in the county to qualify for the District 3 playoffs.
Over the years, success has ebbed and flowed, as it is extremely typical to see the success of high school athletic programs be cyclical. (Of course, there are exceptions!)
The pinnacle of success for Central York girls basketball occurred during the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 seasons. Back-to-back division championships, a YAIAA county championship, a PIAA District 3 championship, and back-to-back trips to the PIAA state playoffs all were achieved during this two-year period.
