The Central York Community Aquatics Learn-to-Swim Program follows American Red Cross guidelines to help participants learn to swim skillfully and safely. Before registering, participants should review the Swim Lesson Placement Guide to determine the appropriate level.

Parent/Child Lessons: Ages 6 months–3 years

An adult is required to be in the water with the participant.

An adult is required to be in the water with Preschool Level 1 participants.

The Central York Natatorium rules are designed to ensure the health and safety of patrons of all ages and abilities. While we wish that you have an enjoyable experience, for safety and security reasons we must enforce the rules. 

Pool Rules: 

• Lifeguards have full authority at all times. Failure to follow pool rules may result in dismissal from the pool area.
• Swimming is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty.
• The pool may be closed for safety in the event of an accident or unbalanced water chemistry.
• Please shower before entering the pool. All individuals must change in the locker rooms and enter and exit the pool through the locker rooms.
• Swimming under the bulkhead is prohibited.
• Running is prohibited anywhere in the pool area.
• Do not swim or dive up or down the ramp. The ramp is for walking entry and exit only.
• Children ages 12 and younger must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
• Children who cannot stand in the shallow end and require a flotation device must have a parent or guardian within arm's reach at all times.
• Diving is not permitted in water less than seven feet deep.
• Breath-holding and prolonged underwater swimming are prohibited.
• Food is not permitted in the pool area or locker rooms. Drinks must be in plastic bottles. Glass containers are prohibited.
• Dangerous activities are prohibited, including sitting or standing on another person's shoulders, pushing, pulling, dunking, throwing another person, or hanging on lane lines.
• Children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper under their bathing suit.
• All swimmers must wear appropriate swimming attire. Undergarments are not permitted.
• Please refrain from holding conversations with lifeguards while they are on duty. Lifeguards must remain focused on monitoring the pool.

Diving Board Rules:

• When diving boards are in use, recreational and lap swimmers are not permitted in front of the diving area.
• Only one diver is permitted on the board at a time.
• Dive or jump from the front of the board only and enter the water directly in front of the board.
• Wait until the previous diver has cleared the water and exited the diving area before diving.
• Hands must enter the water first during headfirst dives.

The Natatorium is located in the Central York High School, 601 Mundis Mill Rd., near the Athletic Entrance of the building. Turn left as you enter the parking area and drive in the direction of the Athletic Stadium. Parking is available in all areas of the high school parking lot.

Participation in ALL community aquatics programs require membership, including Open Recreational Swim. Those registering for a community aquatics membership will have their name entered into an electronic database. Membership cards will not be issued. Memberships are valid for one year, beginning in September and running through August.

All programs require participants to register before participating. We accept rolling registrations for all programs throughout the session, with the exception of swim lessons. All swim lesson registrations will be cut off after the deadline date. This is important for management to be sure we can adhere to a safe & quality Instructor to Student ratio.

Some sessions will take place when school is not in session. Please refer to the community aquatics program schedules above for set dates and cancellations. If a class is cancelled due to an unforeseen circumstance, the aquatics department will make every effort to reschedule or make up the missed lesson. This does not apply to individual scheduling conflicts. We cannot accommodate requests for individual make up classes or rescheduling of lessons.

Full refunds for program fees may be issued up to one week before the program start date. Partial refunds will be issued up to 2 days before. After this time, NO refunds will be issued – with the exception of medical reasons. All refund requests must be submitted in writing & are at the discretion of the Aquatics Director.

Parents are welcome to walk their children from the locker room on to the pool deck for check-in and may meet them on the pool deck at the end of each session. During sessions, parents/visitors may observe from the 2nd floor gallery located inside the natatorium. Having parents at poolside distracts many of the students. We want their full attention on their instructors, to provide the best quality instruction for them. Parents/guardians of Panther Cub lessons may observe from the pool deck bleachers.

All program participants must wear proper swimming attire. Children, who are not toilet trained, must wear a swim diaper before entering the pool. Toys may be used during Recreational swims. For swim lessons: If your child has long hair, please tie it back or use a swim cap. If your child would like to wear goggles, they must bring their own.

Each Recreational Swim Session costs $5.00 per person for residents and $10 per person for non-resident. Guests of residents are $5.00 and guests of non-residents are $10. This is a great opportunity for our program participants to practice their skills! Please check in with the lifeguard upon arriving to pay and verify membership. Children 10 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult who is dressed to swim.

The Natatorium has Men’s and Women’s locker rooms that adjoin to the pool deck. These may be used to change from your street clothes to swimming apparel prior to your session. School-age children are NOT permitted in locker rooms of the opposite sex. The gymnasium restrooms, located down the hall from the natatorium, may be used as an additional changing area for families. Changing on the pool deck is prohibited.

If the Central York School District cancels school activities due to inclement weather or an emergency situation, all Central York Aquatics Programs will be cancelled as well. This information will be posted on the District website and social media, as well as local media. Notifications may also be in the form of emails, phone calls, and memo postings.
