What to Expect If PA DOH Notifies District of Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Case

Recently, Central York School District communicated to our families and community news that individuals in two different schools within the District had tested positive for COVID-19.

Following these announcements, we received questions about what information will be shared with parents/guardians and/or why certain information was not shared. The following is a brief overview of the activities that occur when there is a confirmed positive COVID-19 case in our district, and what information you should expect to receive.

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) will notify us that they have confirmed an individual who was in one of our schools/facilities has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • The PA DOH will ask administrators for information so they may conduct “contract tracing” once a positive test is confirmed. PA DOH staff are looking for individuals who were within six feet of a confirmed positive individual for more than 15 minutes.

  • CYSD Administrators will generate a list of individuals who may have been exposed to the positive individual according to the PA DOH guidelines.

  • CYSD Administrators will call all of these individuals to notify them of the possible exposure and that the PA DOH will follow up directly with each individual to discuss specifics related to the case, including recommended quarantines. If you do not receive a direct call from a District administrator and the PA DOH, that means that the PA DOH did not consider your child to be at risk of exposure to the individual who tested positive.

  • Once ALL possibly exposed individuals have been notified by CYSD, the District will release a statement to faculty, staff, families and the community confirming the following:

    • That an individual in the district has tested positive for COVID-19 as confirmed by the PA DOH.

    • The location of the individual in the district (school or building) who tested positive.

    • That families or individuals who may have been exposed to the positive individual have been notified by the District and PA DOH.

    • The status of all schools in the District as a result of the positive test result.

    • Any other measures related to quarantines or health/safety measures that we are advised to share by the PA DOH.

The District WILL NOT release the name or any identifying information related to individuals with confirmed positive COVID-19 results because of state and federal laws related to privacy of health care information and privacy of student and employee records.

We appreciate the continued communication with our families and community on this topic and others, and are committed to ensuring your receive timely and meaningful information related to COVID-19 so that you can take appropriate measures for the health and safety of yourself and your family.

CYSD Notified of 2nd Confirmed COVID-19 Case

Central York School District has been informed today of a confirmed case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) at Hayshire Elementary School. The individual who is the confirmed case was in attendance at the school prior to being diagnosed. The individual has not been in school since Thursday, September 3 and is following the Pennsylvania Department of Health guidance on quarantine and measures to take before returning to school.

Students and staff who were exposed to the individual with the positive COVID test result were notified by District administrators and will be notified directly by the Department of Health. The Department of Health will notify these individuals of quarantine protocols or any measures to take for their health and safety at this time and before returning to school.

The District is following all PA Department of Health guidance, including continuation of heightened cleaning measures and continued monitoring of students and staff for any additional suspected or confirmed COVID_19 cases.

Hayshire Elementary and all schools in the district will remain open at this time.

We ask our families to continue monitoring your children for any symptoms of COVID-19 and to continue working with us to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff throughout this time.
