Welcome to the Transportation Department

Central York School District provides busing for students from Grades K-12 to and from school each day.

Bus assignments and bus stops are determined in August of each school year, and parents/guardians are notified of their child's bus information before the start of school.  Bus assignments for 2018-2019 have been placed in the mail and should begin arriving in homes in the next week. If you do not receive a bus assignment postcard by August 21, please contact the Transportation Department at (717) 846-6789, ext. 1298.

School rules apply at the bus stop and during the bus ride. Parents and guardians are encouraged to reinforce appropriate bus behavior with their child.

If you have any concerns about your child's bus stop or bus assignment, please contact the District at (717) 846-6789, ext. 1298 OR use the Transportation Change Request Form (link on the left of this page). Concerns about bus or bus stop behavior should be addressed with your child's school principal.

To Request a Change to Your Child's Bus Transportation

If you need to request a change to your child's bus stop, or have a question or concern, please call (717) 846-6789, ext. 1298, or use the online Transportation Change Request Form. This is located to the left of this page.

Security Cameras on District Buses

The Central York School District continually strives to ensure the safety and security of our students. For that reason, the District utilizes security cameras on all district school buses.

If your child rides a district bus (to/from school, activity buses, field trips, etc.), he/she may be subject to video and audio recording.  For more information, please contact the District Transportation Office at 717-846-6789.

Parents/Guardians of Bus Riders: If you need to reach the bus drivers or bus company after school hours, please call 767–1467.

Please remember that Kindergarten students must be met by a parent or guardian (or adult family member) at their bus stop each day. If no one is there to meet the Kindergarten student, the bus driver will not allow the student to depart from the bus.

Bus safety is important for ALL students and families to remember. Please share these helpful reminders with your child as your prepare him or her for their daily bus rides:

  • Talk with your child about their behavior while riding the bus.  Explain that once on the bus, they should find a seat and sit down immediately.
  • Explain that it is important to talk quietly and not be disruptive.  Sudden yelling or movements can startle the bus driver and could cause an accident.
  • While your child is waiting for the bus, stress that he or she should never push or shove other children.  Doing so could result in a child falling into the path of the oncoming bus.
  • Also, a child should never cross the street directly in front of the bus. He or she should always cross beside the bus, or walk to an approved crosswalk or street light to cross safely.
  • Review the lights and symbols on the bus so that you and your child understand that a red flashing light or stop sign means that cars need to stop at least 15 feet away both in front and behind the bus. Knowing the tips for safety can mean a safe ride for all of the children and adults involved in a bus route.
