Statement Regarding Reports of Central York Middle School Safety Concern

During the evening hours of Thursday, January 23, 2020, Springettsbury Township Police received a report of rumors of an unspecified threat related to Central York Middle School.

Central York School District officials, along with the Springettsbury Township Police Department’s School Resource Officer, investigated the concerns and determined that there was no threat to the safety and security of Central York School District. It was determined the rumors were related to an incident previously investigated and shared publicly in December 2019.

The safety and security of our students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. We treat any information we receive regarding a safety concern seriously and act urgently to investigate and bring to resolution such a situation. There was an increased police presence at the school earlier today, January 24, 2020, as an overabundance of caution despite the fact that there was no credible threat found.

We are grateful to our students, faculty and staff, as well as our parents/guardians, for your continued vigilance when it comes to school safety. We encourage you to keep talking with students about the importance of reporting anything you see or hear that concerns you, or poses a risk to safety, to a teacher, administrator or police officer. Please know that you can always report a safety concern using the Safe2Say Something Anonymous Tip Reporting System by calling  1-844-SAF2SAY or using the mobile app, available at: https://www.safe2saypa.org

We believe our schools are safe and secure and we will continue working to ensure the safety and security of ALL students, faculty and staff in our schools, and will communicate with you regarding these efforts regularly.
We appreciate your continued support of Central York School District.

Thank you.
Julie Randall Romig
Director of Communications

start of the school day special meeting planned for jan. 21

Central York School District's Board of School DIrectors will hold a Special Meeting on the "Start of the School Day"  research and information the administration has been gathering as part of the 2018-2020 Comprehensive Plan.

The meeting will be held at 6:30PM Tuesday, January 21, 2020, in the Central York High School Auditorium.** The inclement weather make-up date is scheduled for January 23, 2020, in the same location.

Please note, the 2018-2022 Comprehensive Plan directed the administration to research and develop a proposal on changing the start of the school day for secondary (7-12) and elementary school (K-6) students. The District has gathered information on this topic, and presented scenarios to the School Board during the Fall Town Meeting.

No decision has been made on this topic to date.

A District committee including School Board members, administrators, parents, students, faculty & staff prepared surveys on this topic to gather feedback from all stakeholders. The surveys were administered throughout November, and the results will be shared publicly in January 2020.

The meeting will also offer time for attendees to share input directly with the School Board on this topic.
