News From the Principals… Family Cookout and Author Visit Popular children’s author, Gordon Korman, visited North Hills Elementary School on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. We had a terrific day with him and learned a lot about him. Below are some pictures of our fun! Proper Attire Please keep in mind that boys and girls are permitted to wear sensible shirts, shorts, skirts, and shoes to school in warm weather. Halter- tops, bare midriffs, or tight short-shorts are not appropriate for the school day. Flip-flops are also a concern when students are actively involved on the playground. Please contact the North Hills office if additional clarification is needed. Orientation For Next Year’s 7th Grade Students The faculty and administration of the CYMS would like to cordially invite all parents of next year’s 7th grade students to an orientation program at the Central York Middle School. The orientation program will be held on Tuesday evening May 28th, at 7:00 PM in the middle school auditorium. The purpose of the orientation is to inform parents about the middle school program. This evening session is for parents only. Please do not bring children with you. The students will have their own orientation session during the school day when they come to visit the middle school. They will be given a tour on the day of their visit to assist in the transition between the intermediate and middle school level. The students are generally very excited about this change and look forward to it with eager anticipation. We hope you will echo their excitement and join us on May 28th to learn more about the Central York Middle School.
This is just a reminder that if your child is late to school due to a doctor, dental, or other medical appointment, a note is required from the doctor or medical professional verifying the appointment. Please review the “Attendance Information” in the 2012-2013 Student/Parent Handbook. As with most children, it is not unusual to miss days due to an illness. However, when this occurs, it is necessary to have a BLUE excuse card signed by the parent or guardian stating the reason the student was absent. A BLUE card is also required for educational trips, preceded by the completion of the Educational Trip request form. This is part of the Pennsylvania School Law. If five days pass and a BLUE card is not returned, the absence becomes unexcused. After 10 absences, a student may receive a note from NHE requiring a doctor’s note for any future absences. If your child is experiencing a special medical problem, please contact the school nurse and submit a letter from your child’s doctor pertaining to the medical condition. If there are any concerns regarding attendance, please contact the school.
