Review of Attendance Information

Hours and Tardiness
The student day begins promptly at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:35 PM.  It is essential students arrive in their classrooms prior to the 9:00 bell.  Students not in their classrooms by this time will be considered tardy.  On the third illegal tardy, the student will receive lunch detention.  After the fifth tardy, the student will serve an after school detention

Students will be excused from school in the event of an illness, death in the immediate family, quarantine, or for exceptional reasons determined to be urgent by school administrators, in accordance with Pennsylvania School Law.

Doctor’s Excuse
When a student reaches ten or more days of absence (excused or unexcused), parents can expect to receive a phone call or letter stating that additional absences could result in the need for a doctor’s note for each new absence.  Once a student has been placed on a doctor’s note, no absences will be marked excused unless approved by the school nurse or family physician.

Blue Cards
Students must turn in “blue cards” within five days following an absence.
Failure to return a blue card will result in the absence being marked unexcused.  According to school law, notices will be sent and fines may be assessed.  All parents should be aware that under ACT 29, students of school age who have three unlawful absences from school will be cited by the district magistrate.

Grade 4: Mrs. Zelinka
Grade 5: Mr. Deffinbaugh, Mrs. Hubbs, Mrs. Sicuranza
Grade 6: Mrs. Fellinger

Important Information:

Visitor Procedures:
For the safety of our children, all doors of the school are locked during the school day. We ask ALL visitors request access to the school by pressing the gray button outside the main doors. Once granted entry to the building, please do not hold the door open for others to enter. Upon entering the reception area, visitors MUST sign in and pick up a visitor’s badge. The badge MUST be worn at all times during school hours. Please sign out at the reception area and return your visitor’s badge when you are departing. At times, photo identification may be requested.

Attendance Information:
This is just a reminder that if your child is late to school due to a doctor, dental, or other medical appointment, a note is required from the doctor or medical professional verifying the appointment.

Please review the "Attendance Information" in the 2013-2014 Student/Parent Handbook. As with most children, it is not unusual to miss days due to illness. However, when this occurs, it is necessary to have a BLUE excuse card signed by the parent or guardian stating the reason the student was absent. A BLUE card is also required for educational trips, preceded by the completion of the Educational Trip request form. This is part of the Pennsylvania School Law. If five days pass and a BLUE card is not returned, the absence becomes unexcused.

After 10 absences, a student may receive a note from NHE requiring a doctor's note for any future absence. If you child is experiencing a special medical problem, please contact the school nurse and submit a letter from your child's doctor pertaining to the medical condition.

If there are any concerns regarding attendance, please contact the school.

Please Help Us In Keeping Good Bus Behavior
Please remind your children they should always be sitting in their assigned bus seats, facing forward, and keeping hands, feet, and objects to themselves. For everyone's safety, students should speak in low voices while on the bus.

PTO Information

Have you considered joining the NHE Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO)?  NHE’s PTO is very active and supports students and staff.  Each year, the NHE PTO provides educational opportunities and projects for the children of North Hills.  Please continue to support the PTO so outstanding activities can continue.  We ask that you sign up and contribute your time and effort to continue to make NHE a school of excellence.
