From the Counselor…
That’s right, it’s time for the PSSA’s. All grade levels have been receiving lessons from guidance this month regarding test preparation. You may ask them about their “Test Taking Tools” chart which they will receive during their guidance lesson this month.

If you are aware of any personal concerns for your child or family or have any other concerns, as always, please contact Mrs. Kessel with these concerns. She may be reached at 717-846-6789 x1803 or email@example.com .
Please notify the office immediately if you have any changes to your child’s emergency card. It is vital for the school to be aware of any changes in case of a student illness or emergency.
Winter Weather: Recess and Bus Stops
The cold weather has arrived. Because of this, coats and layers of warm clothing are necessary. This applies to both the bus stop and outdoor recess. When students report to lunch, they must take their coat with them. Students will not be permitted to return to their classroom after eating in the cafeteria. Coats are not to be worn in the classroom. Each classroom is climate controlled providing a comfortable environment for your child.

Health Tips from The Nurse: Students With Illnesses
Please call the school immediately when your child is sick with any contagious disease like chicken pox, strep throat, ringworm, impetigo, pinkeye, flu like symptoms, etc. This information is necessary to protect the health of all of us at North Hills.
Please review the "Attendance Information" in the 2013-2014 Student/Parent Handbook. As with most children, it is not unusual to miss days due to illness. However, when this occurs, it is necessary to have a BLUE excuse card signed by the parent or guardian stating the reason the student was absent. A BLUE card is also required for educational trips, preceded by the completion of the Educational Trip request form. This is part of the Pennsylvania School Law. If five days pass and a BLUE card is not returned, the absence becomes unexcused.
After 10 absences, a student may receive a note from NHE requiring a doctor's note for any future absence. If you child is experiencing a special medical problem, please contact the school nurse and submit a letter from your child's doctor pertaining to the medical condition.
If there are any concerns regarding attendance, please contact the school.
Please Help Us In Keeping Good Bus Behavior
Have you considered joining the NHE Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO)? NHE’s PTO is very active and supports students and staff. Each year, the NHE PTO provides educational opportunities and projects for the children of North Hills. Please continue to support the PTO so outstanding activities can continue. We ask that you sign up and contribute your time and effort to continue to make NHE a school of excellence.
