Students to Perform in Holiday Concerts

In the upcoming weeks, students from NHE will share in the holiday spirit as they combine with other students from around the district performing sounds of the season.  We would like to invite all NHE parents and community members to join in the fun.  These concerts are free of charge and are sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Please join us at the Central York High School for Grade 5 & 6 holiday concerts featuring the bands, choruses and strings for each grade level.

The Grade 5 Holiday Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 16 at 7 PM at the Central York High School.  The Grade 6 Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 7 PM at the Central York High School.

Again, we are very proud of our students’ hard work in preparing for these upcoming concerts.  Please join us in celebrating the achievement of our students.

Winter Holiday Vacation

North Hills Elementary School will be closed for the holiday season beginning Wednesday, December 24, 2014, through Friday, January 2, 2014.  Students will return to school on Monday, January 5, 2015.

The faculty and staff at North Hills Elementary School would like to wish all of our NHE families a healthy and happy holiday season!

LIU Summer Academies

Are you looking for FUN summer academies that offer both art and academic strands designed to meet the individual needs of gifted, talented, artistic and high achieving students? Then, check out the summer camp offerings provided by the LIU Summer Academy.

The LIU Summer Academy offers a wide-variety of courses designed to provide interesting and challenging learning activities for students residing in, or attending schools in Adams, Franklin and York counties. Reinstated this year, there are eligibility requirements for students interested in the academic academies, but all students are eligible to apply for the art academies.

Visit www.iu12.org for more information, course descriptions, and to download an application today OR request a copy of the application through the school office.

The deadline for completed applications is January 30th. However, because a confidential teacher recommendation must be completed by all applicants and qualifying academic scores must be recorded by the school for those registering for the academic offerings, please submit your application to your child’s school no later than Friday, January 23rd to ensure that his/her application will be forwarded to the LIU by the deadline.

If you have any additional questions and/or concerns in regards to the LIU Summer Academy, please feel free to contact Deb Ayers by email (daayers@iu.org) or phone (717.624.6509).

Important Information:

Visitor Procedures:
For the safety of our children, all doors of the school are locked during the school day. We ask ALL visitors request access to the school by pressing the gray button outside the main doors. Once granted entry to the building, please do not hold the door open for others to enter. Upon entering the reception area, visitors MUST sign in and pick up a visitor’s badge. The badge MUST be worn at all times during school hours. Please sign out at the reception area and return your visitor’s badge when you are departing. At times, photo identification may be requested.

Attendance Information:
This is just a reminder that if your child is late to school due to a doctor, dental, or other medical appointment, a note is required from the doctor or medical professional verifying the appointment.

Please review the "Attendance Information" in the 2013-2014 Student/Parent Handbook. As with most children, it is not unusual to miss days due to illness. However, when this occurs, it is necessary to have a BLUE excuse card signed by the parent or guardian stating the reason the student was absent. A BLUE card is also required for educational trips, preceded by the completion of the Educational Trip request form. This is part of the Pennsylvania School Law. If five days pass and a BLUE card is not returned, the absence becomes unexcused.

After 10 absences, a student may receive a note from NHE requiring a doctor's note for any future absence. If you child is experiencing a special medical problem, please contact the school nurse and submit a letter from your child's doctor pertaining to the medical condition.

If there are any concerns regarding attendance, please contact the school.

Please Help Us In Keeping Good Bus Behavior
Please remind your children they should always be sitting in their assigned bus seats, facing forward, and keeping hands, feet, and objects to themselves. For everyone's safety, students should speak in low voices while on the bus.

PTO Information

Have you considered joining the NHE Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO)?  NHE’s PTO is very active and supports students and staff.  Each year, the NHE PTO provides educational opportunities and projects for the children of North Hills.  Please continue to support the PTO so outstanding activities can continue.  We ask that you sign up and contribute your time and effort to continue to make NHE a school of excellence.
