The Panther Pantry

About The Panther Pantry

At the conclusion of the 2013-2014 school year, CYSD School Board member Michael Wagner addressed the entire faculty and staff about the issue of students living in poverty throughout our schools. Mr. Wagner challenged us to donate one can of food per month and suggested that, by doing so, the staff alone could gather thousands of cans of food to feed our children. He called us to take action.

From this, the idea of The Panther Pantry was born. The Panther Pantry is a district-wide food pantry, that opened its doors to Central families in 2014. The mission of the Pantry is to provide nourishment and household supplies to Central York School District children and their families. Each month a different building in the district collects food and household items. Special collections are also held, as needed. The items are inventoried and checked for expiration dates by learners and shipped to the Pantry at the Central York Middle School. Once items are delivered to the Pantry at the Middle School, many different groups of learners stock the shelves.

The items collected for the Pantry include:
  • Pasta & sauce
  • Tuna & peanut butter
  • Cereal & oatmeal
  • Canned fruit & vegetables
  • Rice, potato mixes
  • Granola, nuts, & trail mix
  • Soup
  • Paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, napkins)
  • Laundry detergent, dish soap, all- purpose cleaners
The Panther Pantry is open the third Tuesday of each month from 5:00 - 6:00 PM,
including the summer months. All Pantry dates are listed on the District's calendar. School district employees help all of the families who visit the Pantry on distribution evenings.
