How You Can Be Part of "The Central Experience"
Being involved in your children’s education helps them do well in school and improves the quality of your school. Central York School District offers many
different opportunities for parents and guardians to be a part of their
child's educational experience through volunteering in the classroom or
participating in one of many school-sponsored activities and events for
students and families.
Here are some suggestions on how to get started.
1. Read
everything that is sent home from school - report cards, homework
assignments, school lunch plans, and vacation and bus schedules. Show
your child that you are well informed.
2. Visit
your school's website and your teacher's classroom page regularly to
find out what's going on in the building and the classroom.
3. Subscribe
to receive weekly e-mail updates from the District to stay informed
about calendar items, important information for ALL students and more.

4. Review
your child's student handbook for information on attendance,
discipline, dress code and student conduct. Know that you are welcome to
ask questions about any item you do not understand.
5. Explore
volunteer opportunities through your child's school Parent Teacher
Organization (PTO). Each school has a PTO that meets monthly and helps
provide many enriching opportunities for students and their families at
all grade levels. Learn more about the PTO in Central York School
District by clicking here.
6. Enjoy
the opportunity to visit your child's classroom during Parent Vistation
Days, held each fall and publicized on the District's Calendar. This is
a great time to see your child in action and learn more about what's
going on in the classroom.
7. Attend "Back to School" Nights in the fall and learn more about your child's school experience.
8. Get to know
the many resources available to students and their families as part of
Central York School District, such as guidance counselors, nurses,
social workers, diversity specialists, librarians, reading specialists,
math coaches and more. Learn about these resources through your school's
website or ask your building principal for more information.
9. Attend
a School Board Meeting or District Town Meeting to learn more about the
Board of School Directors who govern the District. Board meetings are
held on the second and third Mondays of each month and are open to the
public. Town Meetings are held in the fall and spring of each year and
offer a chance for community members to engage with School Board members
and Administrators in a less formal setting.
10. Get involved
in one of the many parent/guardian organizations that support Central
York School District, such as: Central York Communities That Care, The
Panther Foundation, Central York Dollars for Scholars, the PTO Council,
the Athletic Boosters, the Music Boosters, the Wrestling Boosters and
the Diversity Education Committee. It's a great way to meet other
families and to make a positive impact on the Central York School
District for your family and those to come!
