Graduation Update - July 2020

Central York School District will hold Commencement Exercises for the Central York High School Class of 2020 from 4PM-9PM on July 24, 2020 on the high school campus.

Due to the current restrictions on group gatherings on public school grounds, graduation will be held as a drive-through ceremony. Graduates will walk across the stage in the high school athletic stadium, have their names read, and have their picture taken with a  diploma cover. Family may take pictures of their senior on stage. Following this, families and seniors will be directed to exit the stadium, return to their vehicles and continue through campus.

Graduates and families will be scheduled in two time slots (4PM-6PM or 6PM-8PM) to allow the district to follow the guidelines for social distancing and safety required by the state and admit as many graduates and family members as possible within these windows. A make-up window will be available from 8-9PM July 24.

Please click here for detailed information from Mr. Caufman shared regarding the ceremony.

Reopening PLans for Central York School District

The Central York School District Board of School Directors on Monday, June 29, 2020, approved the Administration's Health & Safety Plan and the Athletic Health & Safety Plan for Reopening Schools for the 2020-2021 School Year.

These plans outline how the school district will safely reopen school and hold athletic/co-curricular activities for the 2020-2021 school year. Each plan can be viewed via the links, below.

Health & Safety Plan

Athletic Health & Safety Plan

Central York School District is planning for Total Reopening of schools in the fall, as indicated in the Health & Safety Plan.  Total Reopening means our schools are open for all students and staff for in-person instruction, with social distancing and safety measures in place in accordance with COVID-19 guidance. This will include an option for full-time distance learning in our Central York Cyber Academy for those uncomfortable with in-person instruction during this time.

The District is also preparing for other scenarios, including Blended Reopening and Total Remote Learning, in the event that we are not permitted to reopen due to developments with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blended Reopening
is a mix of in-person learning in our schools and remote learning. This would require learners to have a blend of in-school days with face-to-face instruction, and remote learning days.

  • Total Remote Learning means that all students will participate in full-time remote learning with no in-school instruction.

Please know that, like you, the District hopes to return to a "normal" school environment and schedule as much as possible.

Although no decision has been made on the final scenario for how school will be conducted in Fall of 2020, approval of the Health & Safety Plan and the Athletic Health & Safety Plan is required by the state in order to move toward reopening.

The plans will now be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education as required by the state.

What's Next:
The District will survey parents/guardians and faculty/staff about several items related to reopening schools. These surveys will be conducted throughout the next two weeks, and the results will be used to help guide our finalized protocols in support of our approved Health and Safety Plan.

The School Board and Administration will review survey feedback and any updates to the Health & Safety Plan at the July 20, 2020 Public School Board Meeting.

Please watch your email for the survey and take a moment to share your feedback with the administration. Your answers and comments are critical to our reopening process.

We are working daily on plans and guidelines for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is of utmost importance to us, and we are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our area.
