IMPACT BASELINE TESTING CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

ImPact (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is used to assist in treating concussions. All student-athletes must have a baseline test completed regardless of the sport. Baseline testing will be performed for all athletes in Grades 7,9,11. Any student-athlete who has not received baseline testing will be required to do so prior to participation.

In the event that a student-athlete suffers a concussion during the season the student-athlete will retake the test and results will be compared to their baseline score. The following criteria must be met in order to return to play:

  1. Symptom free at rest

  2. ImPact scores return to baseline level

  3. Symptom free while running and performing sport related skills

  4. Cleared by a licensed medical professional who treats concussions.

The baseline test takes approximately 40 minutes to complete. The test should be completed in a distraction free environment (no cell phone, TV, music etc.). Student-athletes should only take the baseline test when they have 40 minutes to devote to taking the test. Several aspects of the test are timed so there cannot be any interruptions.

Scores are checked for invalidity so athletes need to take the test seriously and read all directions carefully.
